ASTM A335 P22 Seamless Pipe is also known as the 2 ¼ chrome pipes. The material is a carbon steel with added chromium, molybdenum and vanadium at some instances. The chromium content is responsible for the added high temperature strength in the ASME SA335 Grade P22 Alloy Steel Pipe SCH 40 and other schedules.
The material has high creep resistance and corrosion resistance. The molybdenum content provides the creep resistance and the pitting resistance to the pipes. The ASTM A335 P22 Pipe is applicable in high temperature services. The high temperature service ability comes from the composition. The composition of the ASTM A335 P22 Welded Pipe has carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, chromium and molybdenum in it.

ASTM A335 Grade P9 and P91 are part of the ASTM A335 specification, which covers seamless ferritic alloy-steel pipe intended for high-temperature service. These materials are primarily used in power plants, refineries, petrochemical plants, and boiler systems, where resistance to high pressure and high temperature is critical.Grade P9 is an alloy steel containing chromium (8-10%) and molybdenum (0.90-1.10%), which gives it excellent resistance to oxidation, corrosion, and creep at elevated temperatures. It offers good weldability and is commonly used in superheater tubes, reheater tubes, and steam piping. The mechanical properties of P9 include a minimum tensile strength of 415 MPa and a minimum yield strength of 205 MPa.
